After a death, how long does it take to receive an inheritance order?

For an heir to receive their share of a deceased person’s estate, an application for an inheritance order must be submitted to the Registrar of Inheritance Affairs. Filing the application involves paying 2 fees. The order is issued digitally within up to 50 days of the application, provided all the forms were filled out properly (including publication in the official gazette and in the press), unless additional documents are required. The Registrar sends the order by e-mail to the applicant or their representative, and it can also be retrieved on the government services and information website.

Why do you need an inheritance order?

After a person dies, an inheritance order is issued to their heirs. The order establishes who the heirs are and what share of the estate each of them receives. First, before applying for an inheritance order, you must arrange payment of the fees and then complete the online application form. After payment, the application is submitted online to the Registrar of Inheritance Affairs through the website. Along with the forms, you must attach the documents relevant to the application, such as:

1. If the deceased did not hold an Israeli ID card, the deceased’s death certificate (or a certified “true copy”) must be attached.

2. If there are multiple heirs, confirmation that notice was sent to all of them, in the form of proof of registered mail sent to every heir.

3. If the applicant is represented by an attorney, a relevant power of attorney.

4. If any heirs waive their share of the inheritance, a signed affidavit of waiver, verified by a lawyer, must be attached.
